Duke Field
Duke Field Expecting Major Growth
As a result of the 2005 BRAC Commission, Duke Field is the preferred site for the incoming Special Forces personnel to locate. It is anticipated that Special Forces personnel should be located around Duke by 2008.
919th Special Operations Wing at Duke Field
The 919th Special Operations Wing, located at Duke Field, Florida, is the only Air Force Reserve unit in the Air Force Special Operations Command.
The 919th Special Operations Wing (919 SOW) trains at Eglin Air Force Base to provide aerial refueling of special operations helicopters and long-range troop, and to supply infiltration missions in support of the Air Force Special Operations Command. Humanitarian missions are also conducted by the 919 SOW, providing medical and other assistance to countries of the Western Hemisphere.
The 919th SOW employs about 1,300 military reservists. Air reserve technicians, commonly referred to as ARTs, are the nucleus of the wing. They provide management continuity to keep the units combat ready. ARTs carry dual status as full-time civil service employees for the Air Force who, as a condition of employment, must participate as reservists. More than 280 ARTs and 35 civilians support the wing in day-to-day operations.
